A Mardi Gras parade is a perfect event to shoot “freestyle” photographs, shooting anything that would appear to make an interesting picture. I’m just as likely to shoot a person walking across the street or fake currency floating in mid-air as I am to shoot the actual parade. I love the hour around dusk where street light mixes with skylight and police lights pour a blast of colored light into a blue haze. Then, when the floats arrive and the flambeaux come marching I feel like a kid in a photographic candy store…
